Description

Doxycycline 50mg

Doxycycline 50mg is a tetracycline antibiotic that works against a wide variety of bacterial illnesses. Long-term therapies, such as acne and rosacea, often employ a 50mg dose, whereas acute infections require a higher dose (100mg).

Medical Uses:

Doxycycline 50mg is mainly used for:

Acne and Rosacea (low-dose, long-term therapy to decrease inflammation).

Lyme disease (early stage treatment).

Respiratory infections (pneumonia and bronchitis).

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) include chlamydia and syphilis.

Malaria prevention (for travels to endemic areas).

It also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective against gum disease (periodontitis).

Dosage and Administration
Acne/rosacea: 50mg once or twice day (usually in conjunction with topical therapies).

Infections: 100 mg twice daily (start with a higher dose and then adjust).

Malaria prevention: 100mg daily (start 1-2 days before travel, continue for 4 weeks after).

Important notes:

To avoid stomach discomfort, take with food or water (but avoid dairy, antacids, and iron supplements within 2 hours as these limit absorption).

To avoid esophageal irritation, do not lie down for 30 minutes after consuming.

Even if your symptoms improve, you should still finish the course.

Side effects are usually minimal.

Nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Sun sensitivity (increased chance of sunburn; wear SPF 50+).

Vaginal yeast infections (due to a disturbed flora).

Serious (get medical help):

Severe headache/vision changes (indicators of intracranial hypertension).

Severe skin rash (potential allergic response).

Liver toxicity (dark urine, yellow skin).

Esophageal ulcers (if a pill becomes stuck, swallow with water).

Drug interactions
Antacids, calcium, iron, magnesium (decrease absorption; space dosages by 2-3 hours).

Blood thinners, such as warfarin, may increase the risk of bleeding.

Birth control tablets (antibiotics may diminish effectiveness; use backup contraception).

Avoid alcohol (it may cause liver strain).
